I hand out baby carrots and celery sticks (no pb or cheese) and if I run out of those I use raw broccoli.
Giving candy to anyone who knocks on my door is too socialist!
Besides, if libs get their way, I'll have to pay for all those cavities! (and resulting obesity) I don't think so!

this is my first year living in town and first year we are able to have trick-or-treaters and i'm rather excited to see how this works.
honeychild (Mel Briscoe) says…
the question should be, do you go thru your kids' treat or treat bags and take out the stuff you really want? lol
honeychild (Mel Briscoe) says…
mr. right wing... care to publish your address or atleast your neighborhood so we know not to knock on your door?

I live over near West Junior High, right in the middle of town and I think we only got two small groups of trick-or-treaters last year. Anyone else noticed that there seem to be hardly any kids out trick-or-treating anymore?
Gootsie (anonymous) says…
We only make up bags for our little neighbors, and don't answer the door. I do not care for Halloween and with the viruses going around, I sure wouldn't want to take my kids out this year.
And they get very little candy - this year they get halloween rubber duckies and some other trinkets. They are pre-schoolers too so that helps.

yes i have already sampled from it-and have had to replace it. twice. hubbs likes candy too. :)

Nope.

Got lots of bags at the big sale last week at Hy-Vee. We live on the SW side of town and had at least 75 little people last year...probably more.
mom_of_three (anonymous) says…
hardly have any trick or treaters any more.
I have bought candy in the past month, but not for Halloween, but because my sweet tooth was aching.
denak (anonymous) says…
No, haven't bought any yet....if I do, I know I would sample just a little too much...so I haven't..yet.
As for the trick-or-treaters, last year was the first time I have ever handed out treats. I got about 30 kids or so. Not a huge bunch but it was still fun.
I think most kids just go down to Mass. street or the dorms or to their church for "junk in the trunk." I think most parents think it is safer and easier to trick-or-treat that way than to go around to neighborhoods. It is kind of hit or miss when you do it that way.

What to buy....Zero, 3 Muskateers, or Skittles?
I refuse to give out those annoying orange or brown wrappered candies that have less taste than tree bark.
kmat (anonymous) says…
I've gone through the candy I bought for myself. I'll buy the candy for trick or treaters the day before Halloween or else there would be none left for the kids.
North Lawrence must be the place for trick or treaters. We gets tons of them and go through pounds of candy.
Irish (Leslie Swearingen) says…
I just got though bagging candy for the childrens groups that come by Vermont Towers.
I love Halloween and giving out candy is an important part. I say lighten up people and have fun.
labyrinth (anonymous) says…
Yes, but in a healthy way. I got a variety pack to more broadly address my nutritional needs. One kind even has wrappers that are green, tee, hee. l
autie (anonymous) says…
are you kidding me? We've had to go back to dollar store like nine times already and Halloween is still almost two weeks out. I loves me some little snickers and butterfingers.
hitme (anonymous) says…
Yes, but I limit myself. Those little airline bottles have too many calories to consume in quantity daily.

West 6th Street.
Are you discriminating against my vegan Halloween?!
pissedinlawrence (anonymous) says…
I hand out candy and toys! :) I love Halloween.
labyrinth (anonymous) says…
I'm glad we don't need to go to LMH to have the candy xrayed any more. That was a scary time. I've been gone for a while, do kids still visit the Mass. Street stores? It was so handy to go there. l
