God give me a day off please! You pretty much have to go to riverside mo to get anything worth lighting these days.

Nope, not doing it this year. The grandkids would rather watch what the rest of the neighbors set off anyway, so why waste the money.

I will buy some for the kids to shoot off but not until the 3rd. I find it very annoying and distracting to shoot them off any sooner than that.

No money, no fireworks.

NO, but the firecracker huts are on 12" centers in Baldwin City.

Grandma Irish will be buying fireworks for the most darling grandson in the world today.
Daughter will be in charge of display.
I am really looking forward to this.
As an older single person I feel like a kid again, I feel free, like every day could be an adventure. My life is my own. It's wonderful.
I've been though the desert on a horse with no name.
Bring on the fireworks!!

Do eight bricks of .22LR count?

Just got back from buying a huge bag of fireworks. Grandson has huge grin on his face.

snap and consumer, I suspect you are both kidding, but I figured I'd just take a second to remind you both that shooting guns into the air as a form of celebration is really stupid and dangerous.
Here in Phoenix back in 1999, a 14 year old girl - Shannon Smith - was killed in her own backyard by a bullet randomly shot into the air. It struck her in the head as she talked to a friend on the telephone. Her father found her and attempted cpr.
The following year, legislators passed "Shannon's Law" which makes it a felony to shoot a gun in the air in an urban environment in AZ. http://www.azcentral.com/specials/spe...
Of course, the NRA protested the passage of Shannon's law before it was passed.
So if you, or anyone else, even thinks about doing something as stupid as shooting your gun into the air to celebrate the 4th, or if you even want to make a joke about it, just think of a young girl named Shannon. She would have been 24 today.

Is there a more stupid waste of money than fireworks? Let the city have a show for the populace and save your own money for the rough times.

Anyone with any knowledge knows that the force of gravity is not enough to carry a bullet at the speed or the force that can kill. You can even watch mythbusters the figure this one out. In the case in Phoenix the firearm was not fired straight up in the air it was fired at a much lesser angle to which the bullet was still carrying the force of the load being fired. Get you facts together before running you mouth. You may find (if you open your closed mind) that most legit gun owners know the safe way to own, maintain, and operate there weapons. Cheers consumer, snap, and oldvet and happy 4th

Venom, who said that the bullet that killed Shannon Smith was shot "straight up"? I sure didn't, and I've seen that episode of Mythbusters. When a airplane flies into the air, does it go "straight up"? No. There is more than one way for something to go into the air. I wrote the fact, which is a bullet was shot into the air, and the bullet coming back down killed a very real 14 year old named Shannon Smith. See the link I provided.
Further, where did I say that most gun owners don't know how to own, maintain, and operate their weapons? No, I addressed a comment by someone who indicated that instead of fireworks he would be shooting off his gun. That was since followed by a second person. You appear to encourage this behavior.
If the fact that some - SOME - people who own guns do stupid stuff that kills others is too much for you to grasp, then perhaps you too aren't mentally stable enough to own and operate a gun.
Better yet, instead of encouraging others to shoot guns into the air, why not just invite them over to your house and let them shoot at random members your family. Maybe then you might get to learn how the family of Shannon Smith feels when they hear stupid comments like yours that seem to justify and nulify their little girl's death.
Your zealous love of guns has clearly overtaken your ability to think like a rational person.

ROFL your pathedic someone calls you out and your back peddling faster that you opened your mouth. Your idea of shooting into the air and normal persons idea must be totally different, because if you think a shot fired that goes down range and still has enough Knetic engery to kill was "randomly in the air" then you are as dumb as you sound.
I must have missed the post where someone was going to shoot at random people still working on figuring that one out.
It's apparent that your liberal, anti-gun, obama supporting ways have clearly overtaken your ability to think like a rational person.
Never the less have a great day and a good 4th
p.s. have you ever seen a harrier take off

Shoot fireworks in Lawrence???? It's against the law. I know, because a few years back, I was behind two teen-aged boys in Dillon's who were talking about it. One said his dad was a LPD cop. He didn't have to buy them, he told his friend, 'cause dad brought home the stuff they confiscated!
