I try to make a list when I go to the store and stick to it. But, I have wanted a lava lamp for so long, and I really like it.

Well why not? It's only money after all! Lots of things that haven't been funded for a long time are now getting a fresh influx of cash. Courtesy the American tax payer (and their progeny for the next 2-3 generations, at least).

Everyone is spending more.
The question is weak.
Everyone, County, City, Courts, retailers, wholesalors, street vendors, Gas company, Electric company, Water Utility, Fuel stations, are all charging more for less. So, everyone is spending more. Like it or not. they may be reducing the spending on personal items, but even those are costing more, so, they are spending more.

I've gone from Miller Lite to Old Milwaukee as my cooler beer of choice.
I have to agree with Consumer. Whatever is getting saved by cutting back on non-essentials gets redistributed to the grocery store, utilities, and hookers.
