When we are talking of ways to cut services such as $6 per hour crossing guards and nature centers we do not talk about creating a whole new position that would undoubtably pay upwards of $100,000. Absolutely not.

The principles of sustainability are excellent, but there is no connection whatsoever between those principles and yet another bureaucracy.

Any question that begins "Does Lawrence need a..." the answer is no. Lawrence needs to manage what it has properly. Can Lawrence afford it? No. Can Lawrence exist without it? Absolutely.

Sometimes I think this city just wants to anger people and waste taxes. Any by sometimes, I mean every day. Oh well, hopefully I am moving to KC by the end of the year...see ya, Lawrence.

I cannot believe the audacity of city leaders to even bring something like this up when existing services are on the chopping block. Talk about being out of tune with reality! If this is so darned important, handle it within, absent adding staff or wasting more money.

Well, maybe they can lay off a few more city employees and cut some funding here and there to make it happen. I can't believe they'd give this idea 2 seconds of thought. That it even makes it into the paper is idiotic.

Please tell me they are kidding!! They need to keep school crossing guards as a priority. NO new hires of any kind and freeze wages of city employees. All the companies that are trying to stay in business are doing these things. Wake up, City of Lawrence!

Who *exactly* is urging the city to create this post other than the same people who urge more and more government spending? Keep the crossing guards and when they are driving around they can stop at houses with regular light bulbs and ask them to change them. They could also get tag numbers of cars belching smoke and dripping gas and oil and turn them over to the city.
