Representatives of the Central and East Lawrence Elementary School Consolidation Working Group attended Monday night's meeting of the Lawrence school board. Their task: Ask the elected officials for clarification on issues affecting the group's work. Alexa Posny, a part-time Lawrence resident who serves in Washington as assistant secretary of education for special education and rehabilitative services, visited Cordley School on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, to discuss President Obama's jobs bill.
Laurie Scott, school resource officer at West Middle School, is leading the charge to provide kids with gifts and their families with food for the holidays through the new Lawrence Police Blue Santa Program. A new wind screen is in place at the stadium at Free State High School. As noted, the school's football boosters made the donation. Mike Hill, Free State's athletics director, estimated that it had cost a few thousand dollars.
