Jim Simpson, 91, is a widow after 56 years of marriage. The Abilene, Kan., native lives at Babcock Place. His advice: "Get acquainted with the family and get to the know the folks you're getting involved with. Because that's going to be your history."
Beverly Bronaugh, 75, is a widow after 54 years of marriage. The Wathena, Kan., native lives at Babcock Place. Her advice: "Never go to bed angry."
Othal Huntsinger, 72, is a widower after 41 years of marriage. Huntsinger lives at Babcock Place. His advice: "You don't want to spoil her. If you spoil her, you've got problems."
Ray Newell, 88, is a widower after 52 years of marriage. Originally from Ozawkie, Kan., Newell lives at Babcock Place. His advice: "You have to show them love every day."
Marge Boron, 80, is a widow after 32 years of marriage. Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Boron lives at Meadowlark Estates. Her advice: "We just showed each other little things. Something as simple as opening the car door for me."
Nancy Yeagar, 77, is a widow after 51 years of marriage. Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., Yeagar lives at Meadowlark Estates. Her advice: "It should be Valentine's Day all year long."
Marge, 88, and Bob MacLeay, 87, have been married 65 years. Originally from the suburbs of New York City, the couple lives at Meadowlark Estates. Marge's advice: "You never know what the future is going to bring. Changes in your life and your surroundings make a big difference. But you have to know the other person is always there for you." Bob's Advice: "Just remember that your wife is a separate person. And if you don't get her opinion, you're going to miss out on a lot."
Doug Girod, who became Kansas University Medical Center's executive vice chancellor on Feb. 1, plans to emphasize teamwork within KUMC and building connections with other institutions across the nation and world.
