Iona Spencer became interested in genealogy in 1964, and by 1973 had produced and printed a book on her family's history. Spencer is photographed on her 87th birthday at the Lane Museum in Lecompton holding the family genealogy book she published and in front of her 1944 Lecompton High School senior class photograph. She still does research and compiles genealogies at both Lane Museum and at the Kansas Musem of History in Topeka.
