Throughout much of Boys and Girls Club history, the organization has been short on space and money. In 1981, the club moved to the Mustard See building at 500 E. 23rd St. In 1988, it moved from that location to its current spot at 1520 Haskell Ave.
Boys and Girls Club members play basketball in one of the program's school sites. Under the direction of executive director Janet Bremby, the organization began expanding into school sites in the early 2000s.

Grant Miller, 26, Lawrence, who has Down syndrome, lives independently thanks to services that are funded through Medicaid. Advocates fear that the state's plan to privatize Medicaid will disrupt services for individuals with developmental disabilities, like Grant, who depend on them for daily living.

Southwest Middle School’s 2012 Future City team placed third at the Great Plains Regional Competition at Kansas University on Saturday, Jan. 21, winning $250 for the school. They worked for a semester with their engineer mentor, Chris Storm of Landplan Associates, to design a city 150 years in the future that effectively utilizes alternative energy sources.
