Judy Billings started her career at the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau as a part-time secretary in 1980. In just a couple of years, she had moved into the director’s position, and now, more than 30 years later, she’s retiring as president and CEO of Destination Management Inc.

David Loewenstein and KT Walsh work on restoring a mural Tuesday that was recently covered up during repairs to the building that houses Signs of Life, 722 Mass. Scott, Grace, 16, Kelly, 23, and Kathleen Morgan jumped for the Kansas Jayhawks on the Great Wall of China during a visit to see Kelly, who now lives in Hangzhou, China. They were on the wall in a remote section when they realized KU was playing Purdue at that very moment back home on March 18. They didn’t find out the results of the game until hours later, but they were still glad they jumped. Son Calvin was unable to join them because his spring break at the Air Force Academy differed from the spring break at Lawrence High School. Scott submitted the photo.
