African pompano swim at the New England Aquarium on Tuesday in Boston. The fish, which usually range as far north as the Carolinas, were caught last autumn by a fisherman in Rhode Island. Aquarium biologists attribute their appearance in Rhode Island waters to rising ocean temperatures.
Union Pacific steam Locomotive No. 844 heads west past the Lawrence Visitors Center Tuesday. Steam Locomotive No. 844 is the last steam locomotive built for Union Pacific Railroad. It was delivered in 1944. The historic engine is on a 35-day, 10-state tour to celebrate the railroad's history and heritage.
Lawrence landowner Rex Youngquist, 86, is in the middle of a dispute with county officials about concrete, waste and debris from the old Kansas River bridge that he says was dumped years ago on his property in North Lawrence.
Vandals smashed eight windows and one door during the weekend at Kennedy School, 1605 Davis Road, causing more than $8,000 worth of damage. According to head custodian Rudy Rocha, pictured through the broken safety glass in the school's courtyard Tuesday, the suspects climbed a drainpipe to the roof of the school and then threw rocks into the windows. Only the outside of the double-paned glass was broken. The windows, which were installed less than a year ago, will be replaced this week.

President Bush nominated Goldman Sachs Chairman Henry M. Paulson Jr. as Treasury secretary on Tuesday. The two spoke in the Rose Garden at the White House. If approved by the Senate, Paulson would succeed John Snow.
