Heather F. Poteet, Lawrence, and Terry Graves, Shawnee, were married July 31, 2010, at the Sheraton Kauai Resort, Kauai, Koloa, Hawaii, with Woody Davis officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Raymond and Imy Poteet, Perry.
The groom is the son of J. Patrick Graves, Kansas City, Kan., and Denise Eighmey, Tonganoxie.
Maids of honor were Holly Reed and Jodi Schlesener. Best man was Jeff White. Bridesmaids were Ashley Schlesener and Caitlin Schlesener. Groomsmen was Scott Schlesener. Flower girls were Kaelen Reed, Tayren Reed and Deavynn Schlesener. Ringbearer was Bryttni Schlesener. Vocalist was Joy Graves.
A reception was held Aug. 20 at Mustard Seed Church in Lawrence.
The bride is a graduate of Lawrence High School. She earned a psychology degree from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., and is the president of Alpha and Omega Financial services, Lawrence.
The groom is a graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School. He earned a molecular biology degree from Emporia State University and is a forensic scientist for the state of Kansas.
The couple reside in Lawrence.
Guth and Mills
Jennifer Guth, Lawrence, and Richard Mills, Lewistown, Pa., were married June 19, 2010, in Las Vegas, with the Revs. David Drach-Meinel and James Lyons officiating.
The bride is the daughter of David and Kathy Guth, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Emerson and Ann Marie Mills, Lewistown.
Maid of honor was Jennifer Newman-Cornell. Best man was Ronald Mills. Junior groomsman was Justice Mills. Usher was Andy Guth. Readers were Andy Guth and Deanna Mills.
A reception followed at The Railhead Room in Boulder Station Casino, Las Vegas.
The bride is a graduate of Lawrence High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Washburn University, a master’s degree in education from Kansas University, and a master’s degree in library science from Texas Woman’s University. She is a librarian at Las Vegas High School.
The groom is a graduate of Lewistown Area High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Lockhaven University and a master’s degree in education from Grand Canyon University, and is a social studies teacher at Las Vegas High School.
The couple reside in Las Vegas.
Colson and Wilson
Brianne Colson, Lawrence, and Jeff Wilson, Houston, were married May 22, 2010, at Liberty Hall, in Lawrence, with the Rev. John Schmeidler officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Jim and Kathy Colson, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Linda Thompson and Dale and Donna Wilson, all of Houston.
Maid of honor was Lisa Hurst. Best man was Kyle Wilson. Bridesmaids were Kelly Johnston and Kim Baker. Groomsmen were Steve Wilson and Tony Pisoni. Ushers were Kevin Colson and Jason Wagner.
A reception followed at Liberty Hall.
The bride is a 2001 graduate of Lawrence High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in applied behavioral sciences from Kansas University in 2005 and is a dental assistant with Handley Dental in Houston.
The groom is a 1995 graduate of Parkway North High School in St. Louis. He earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from KU in 2007 and is a graphic artist with Farouk Systems in Houston.
The couple reside in Houston.
Brown and Thompson
David and Twilla Brown, Baldwin City, along with Robert and Jo Ann Thompson, Louisburg, announce the engagement of their children, Megan Elizabeth Brown, Eudora, and Ryan Steven Thompson, Louisburg.
The future bride is a 1998 graduate of Lawrence High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Kansas State University in 2002. She is a payroll specialist for Garmin International.
The future groom attended Louisburg High School until 1999 and continued his education at Paola Adult Education Center, graduating in 2004. He is a 911 dispatcher and reserve deputy for the Miami County Sheriff’s Department.
The couple plan an Oct. 2, 2010, wedding at Worden United Methodist Church in Baldwin City.
D. Leon and Ardith L. Curtis celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a dinner with friends on Aug. 11.
The couple were married Aug. 11, 1950, in Independence, Mo.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Leon worked for AT&T in Kansas City, Mo., until going into full-time ministry as a missionary for the Community of Christ (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints). After ministerial retirement as an evangelist in 1991, he worked for Dillons, both Hy-Vee stores and Lawrence Bus Co. In November 2009, he retired from the Hy-Vee on Sixth Street. While living in Jefferson County, Leon raised and trained registered quarterhorses. In 2005, they sold the horses and acreage and moved to Lawrence, where they now reside.
Ardith worked as an accountant for many years, then completed licensed practical nurse training while they were on assignment in Tennessee. She worked in nursing homes and hospitals until retiring from Lawrence Memorial Hospital in 2006.
They have two daughters, Rebecca C. Giles and husband Kevin, Stillwater, Minn., and Lianna D. Corteville and husband Timothy J., Chesterfield, Mo.; three sons, Phillip L., Jeffrey B., and Randall C., all of Lawrence; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
John and Nancy Payne, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Bly Room, Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.
The couple were married Sept. 8, 1960, in Sigourney, Iowa.
They have a daughter, Julie Katzfey, Eudora; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Harold and Anna Marie Hickock, Lecompton, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June with family in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Harold H. Hickock and Anna Marie Icks were married Sept. 4, 1960, in Lawrence.
Harold retired from Bud Jennings Carpet One after 42 years then started his own business, Triple H Binding. Anna Marie was a homemaker and had a day care.
The couple have a son, Harlan and wife Lynne, Largo, Fla., a daughter, Barbara Wolf and husband Rex, Topeka; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Wise and Christensen
John and Carolyn Wise, Linwood, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 at their son Scott’s home, 22332 Golden Road, Linwood.
John E. Wise and Carolyn Christensen were married Sept. 3, 1950, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver.
John graduated from Bethany College. He taught school at Roxbury and Washington high schools and continues to farm near Linwood. Carolyn attended Bethany College and graduated from Kansas University. She taught school in Tonganoxie before retiring.
They have two sons, Bruce, Lawrence, and Scott, Linwood; a daughter, Karen Aeschliman, Sabetha; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
