Katherine Williams, Waco, Texas, and Jeremiah Shaw, Elizabeth, Colo., were married May 2, 2009, at Danforth Chapel at Kansas University, with Judge Robert Fairchild officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Algen Williams, Lawrence, and Beth Lancaster, Vallejo, Calif.
The groom is the son of Kevin Shaw, Laramie, Wyo., and Betsy Wilson, Elizabeth, Colo.
Maids of honor were Ollie Wenger and Sowjanya Seetala. Best men were Ken Apple and David Hardy. Ringbearer was Mason Williams. Flower girls were Mikyla Williams and Alexis Williams. Ushers were Algen Williams Jr. and Tiffany Fuller. Nickolas Passmore, son of the bride, and Wyatt Shaw, son of the groom, were presented medallions by the couple during the ceremony.
A reception was given at the EconoLodge, Lawrence.
The bride is a 1993 graduate of Leavenworth High School and attended Kansas University. She is the webmaster for Douglas County.
The groom is a 1996 graduate of Elizabeth (Colo.) High School, and attended Mesa State College, Grand Junction, Colo. He is a deputy in the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.
The couple reside near Perry Lake.

Kristen Dexter and Matt Hinshaw, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Brian and Diana Dexter, Overland Park. She is a 2005 graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School and earned an elementary education degree from Kansas University in May. She works part-time at the university, where she is studying for a masters and will begin student teaching in the fall.
The future groom is the son of Gary and Kelley Hinshaw, Overland Park. He is also a 2005 graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School and will graduate from KU in December. He is an engineer intern at the Kansas Department of Transportation in Topeka.
The couple plan a July 9, 2010, wedding at Danforth Chapel at KU.

The bride is the daughter of Gary and Sonja Vicker, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Richard Johnston, Irons, Mich., and the late Rita Johnston.
Maid of honor was Paige Butler. Best man was Henry Butler. Flower girl was Gabby Yoder. Ringbearer was Griffin Akins.
A reception was given at The Castle Tea Room.
The bride earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, a Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She owned and operated Ellipse, Inc., an education and career exploration consulting company in Newport Beach, Calif.
The groom earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth, and a Juris Doctorate and a Doctor of Philosophy degrees, both from the University of Michigan. He is the Robert G. Fuller, Jr. Professor of Law and director of the Program on Law, the Environment and the Economy at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
The couple reside in Philadelphia.

The bride is the daughter of Stephen and Marcia Hill.
The groom is the son of Bryan and Kathy Patten, Lookout Mountain, Ga.
Matrons of honor were Julie Ketover and Jennifer Yang Weedn. Best man was Daxter Holder. Bridesmaids were Emily Hill, Sarah Hill-Nelson, Kathleen Patten, Sarah Patten, Cara Nossaman Anderson and Dune Lawrence. Groomsmen were Bryan Wheelock, William Montgomery, Matthew Scott, Ben Rodriguez, Rustan Adcock, Ben O’Connell and Zachary Bruns. Flower girls were Hilary Griggs and Oona Nelson. Ringbearers were Mancel Adcock, Hugh Griggs, Lyle Griggs and Henry Nelson. Readers were Vanessa Hill Johnson and Jennifer Neal. Guestbook attendant was Jami Wyatt.
A reception followed at the home of the bride’s parents.
The bride is a 1992 graduate of The Barstow School, Kansas City, Mo., and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University in 1996, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Virginia in 2001. She is the vice-president of finance at Revolution Places, Washington, D.C.
The groom is a 1992 graduate of The Baylor School, Chattanooga, Tenn., and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Yale University in 1996, and a Master of Arts degree in education policy and a Master of Business Administration degree, both from Stanford University in 2003. He is the chief financial officer of Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools, Washington, D.C.
The couple reside in Washington, D.C.

Dorothy and Don Daugherty
Don and Dorothy Daugherty, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren later this summer.
Don Daugherty and Dorothy McCray were married June 27, 1959, at University Methodist Church in Madison, Wis., with the Rev. Allen C. Best officiating.
In 2000, Don retired as professor of electrical engineering and computer science at Kansas University and Dorothy retired from K-State Research and Extension-Douglas County.
They have a daughter, Lynn Cachey, Orland Hills, Ill.; a son, Scott, Wichita; and two grandchildren.

Mary Lou and Bill Hamlin
Bill and Mary Lou Hamlin, Eudora, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a 5 p.m. Mass today at the Holy Family Catholic Church of Eudora followed by a reception in the parish hall.
William Hamlin and Mary Lou Van Norman were married on June 27, 1959, in Tomahawk, Wis.
The couple moved to Eudora in 1972 from Tomahawk, after Bill was transferred to the Lawrence Wickes Lumber Yard in North Lawrence. He worked in the building construction field until 2006, when he retired from Neighbor’s Construction Company. Mary Lou was a buyer for Weaver’s Department Store from 1973 to 1993. She works part-time at the Kansas City Gift Mart in Overland Park. They have been members of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Eudora since moving from Wisconsin.
They have two daughters, Kim, Wichita, and Teri, Linwood; two sons, Scot, Eudora, and Steve, Towanda; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The couple requests no gifts.

Helen and Andy Martinez
Andy and Helen Martinez, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today with family.
Andy Martinez and Helen Chavez were married on June 27, 1959, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Andy graduated from Ottawa High School in 1955. He moved to Lawrence in 1957 and entered the plumbing trade. Andy has worked for several different plumbing companies and served on the Lawrence plumbing board. In 1974, he started his own business, Martinez Plumbing Service, in Lawrence, which he still operates today. Helen graduated from Lawrence High School in 1959. She has worked for the Kansas University Extension Center. Helen is a homemaker and also manages the Martinez Plumbing office.
They have four sons, David and wife Theresa, Paul and James, all of Lawrence, and Steve, Manhattan; a daughter, Angela Minor and husband Glenn, Lawrence; and five grandchildren.
