Shannon Rose Halpin, Lawrence, and Marshall McGinnis, WaKeeney, were married Aug. 30, 2008, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. John Schmeidler officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Patrick Halpin and Erin Callahan-Halpin, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Mike and Verla McGinnis, WaKeeney.
Maid of honor was Kate Robinson. Best man was Matt Neuman. Bridesmaids were Michelle Dinges, Connie Zeender, Jessica McGinnis, Alice Karakas-Neuman and Kelli Walt. Groomsmen were Cuyler Halpin, Frank Jaksa, Brendan Halpin, Eric Blevins and Brandon Hille. Ushers were Kevin and Alan Callahan, Zach Dinges and Troy Walt. Candlelighters were Jayme Lisher and Lindsey Lawrence. Readers were Elizabeth Hickert-Fike, Ann Wright and Jake Klima. Guest book attendants were Grace and Nora Cresswell and Mara and Andrew Mescher. Flower girl was Cora Mescher. Ringbearer was Thayne Walt. Gift bearers were Josh and Michelle Callahan. Bride’s attendant was Allison Jaksa.
A reception was given at Abe and Jake’s Landing.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of Free State High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas, in 2004, and a juris doctorate from Washburn University law school in 2007. She is employed at the Sprint Nextel Corporate Headquarters in Overland Park.
The groom is a 1999 graduate of Trego Community High School, WaKeeney. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Washburn University in 2003, and a juris doctorate from Washburn University law school in 2007. He is an associate counsel for Creative Marketing in Leawood.
The couple reside south of Lawrence.

Amber Johnson and Jonathan Riley

Dan and Debbie Johnson announce the engagement of their daughter, Amber Johnson, to Jonathan Riley, all of Hastings, Neb.
The future bride is a 2002 graduate of 32-Mile Creek Home School in Juniata, Neb., and earned a bachelor’s degree with a double major in music and business administration from Hastings College in 2006. She is a secretary at Hastings Berean Bible Church, in Hastings, and is also a home health care provider.
The future groom is the son of Mike and Leanna Riley, Lawrence. He is a 2003 graduate of Free State High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Mid-America Nazarene University in 2007. He is a chemist at IEH Laboratories in Hastings.
The couple plan an Oct. 17, 2009, wedding at Hastings Berean Bible Church.

Teresa Olds, Lawrence, announces the engagement of her daughter, Heather Olds, to Dustin Jamison, both of Overland Park.
The future bride is also the daughter of the late Michael Olds. She is a 2002 graduate of Free State High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kansas University in 2007. She is employed at DST Systems in Kansas City, Mo.
The future groom is the son of Michael Jamison, Claremore, Okla., and Terrie Smith, Three Rivers, Texas. He is a 2000 graduate of Dodge City High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Haskell Indian Nations University in 2005 and is employed at Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, Mo.
The couple plan a Sept. 5, 2009, wedding in Kansas City, Mo.

Anniversary

Pippert

Betty and Albert Pippert Jr., Holton, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Jackson County Fairgrounds in Holton.
Albert Pippert, Jr. and Betty Allen were married Aug. 27, 1949, in Ottawa.
Albert worked for more than 40 years at Martin-Marietta Aggregates in Topeka and Betty was a homemaker. They lived in Lawrence until moving to Holton in 2007.
They have three sons, Allan and wife Cindy, and Bill and wife Terri, all of Lawrence, and Daren and wife Robyne, Eudora; a daughter, Denise Willits and husband Richard, Holton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The couple requests no gifts.

Janice and Bob Cobb, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday.
The couple were married on Aug. 27, 1949, in Wellington.

The couple were married Aug. 31, 1959, in Smith Center.
They have a daughter, Debbie Chapin, Lawrence; a son, Jerry and wife Teresa, Perry; three grandsons, Spencer, Mitch and Harrison; and a great-grandson, Tanner.

The bride is the daughter of David and Mei Upsdell, Shawnee.
The groom is the son of Abiodun and Folashade Omoniyi, Nigeria, and Taju and Kafayat Hamodu, United Kingdom.
Maid of honor was Lian Upsdell. Best man was Dustin Elliott. Flower girl was Desola Omoniyi. Scripture readers were Jasola and Yosola Omoniyi. Ushers were Travis Richert, Shaun Branham, Courtney Farr, John Randtke and Seth Clock.
A reception was given at the Holiday Inn-Overland Park West.
The bride is a 2004 homeschool graduate and a 2008 graduate of Kansas University. She earned bachelor’s degrees in journalism and English and is a copy editor at the Lawrence Journal-World.
The groom is a 2002 graduate of Lifeforte International High School in Nigeria and a 2008 graduate of KU. He earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and finance and plans to graduate in December with a master’s degree in economics. He works part time at KU.
The couple reside in Lawrence.
