Al and Nancy Haverty
Al and Nancy Haverty will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family today at the Circle S Ranch.
Al Haverty and Nancy Hampton were married May 10, 1958, in Salina.
Al was born and raised in Lawrence. He is a graduate of Kansas University. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. After marrying, the couple moved to Texas, where he was stationed. They later returned to Lawrence, where they built a home and raised their children. Al owned and operated Haverty Real Estate & Insurance.
Nancy was born and raised in Salina. She attended KU. She is devoted to her family and is a homemaker.
They have five children: Betsy and Jerry Hoke, Lawrence; Tim and Jennifer Haverty, Leawood; Jennifer and Kent Brown, Wichita; Dina Haverty, Lawrence; and John and Carrie Haverty, Topeka.
They have six grandchildren.
The couple reside in Lawrence.

The future bride is a 1996 graduate of Kuemper Catholic High School, Carroll, Iowa. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1999. She received a master's degree in curriculum leadership from Emporia State University in 2004. She is a doctoral student at Kansas University, studying curriculum and instruction, and is employed by McGraw Hill Education.
The future groom is a 1994 graduate of Lawrence High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from St. Louis University in 1998. He was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship in 1999, studying at the University of Padua in Italy. He received a master's of education degree from Boston College in 2001. He is a doctoral candidate for educational statistics at the University of Iowa and is employed by Computerized Assessment and Learning in Lawrence.
The couple plan a Sept. 13, 2008, wedding at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Kansas City, Mo.

The future bride is a graduate of Park Hill High School, Kansas City, Mo. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Missouri Western State University in 2007. She is a preschool teacher at Children's Learning Center in Lawrence.
The future groom is also a graduate of Park Hill High School. He is studying computer science at Highland Community College in Perry.

The future groom is a 2003 graduate of Lawrence High School. He is studying construction management at Pittsburg State University. He is the grandson of Erma Hadl, Lawrence, and Bill and Anne Mullis, Damascus, Md., and the late Kenneth and Marjorie Shannon, Kansas City, Kan.
The couple plan a June 14, 2008, wedding at the Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium in Pittsburg.
