Ralph and Donna Gelvin celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family in the Hawaiian Islands.
Ralph Gelvin and Donna Landrith were married March 14, 1948, at Danforth Chapel at Kansas University. They lived in Kansas City, Kan., while Donna attended the nursing program at Kansas University Medical Center. They have lived in Lawrence since her completion.
Donna was a registered nurse for over forty years. Ralph worked at Landrith's Grocery after returning from active duty in the navy. He later worked for and retired from FMC after 25 years.
They have been active members of the First Christian Church in Lawrence for over 50 years. They also have belonged to the Masonic Orders and several other different civic groups.
They have two children: Sharylyn Lacey, and the late Phil Lacey, McPherson; and Ralph Jr. and Joann Gelvin, Lawrence. They have five grandchildren.
Kabus and Farmer
Terra Farmer, Oskaloosa, and Ben Kabus, McLouth, announce their engagement.
Terra is the daughter of Terry and Barbara Farmer, Oskaloosa. Ben is the son of Bill and Betsy Kabus, McLouth.
The bride-to-be is a 2005 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and a 2006 graduate of the AmeriCorps GRASP program, Wichita. She is co-owner of The Friendly Kansan Restaurant in Oskaloosa and a local childcare provider.
The future groom is a 2002 graduate of McLouth High School. He received an Associate of Science degree in agronomy from Cloud County Community College, Concordia, in 2004. He is employed by Dailey Farms, McLouth.
The couple plan a June 21 wedding in Oskaloosa.
Candice Rukes and Aaron Simmons were married July 28, 2007, at Central United Methodist Church, Lawrence, with the Rev. Maria Campbell officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Dan and Deb Rukes, Overbrook. The groom is the son of John and Susan Simmons, Shawnee.
Maid of honor was Maggie Smith. Best man was Phil Mears. Bridesmaids were Jodi Bachelor, Ashley Wiscombe and Stephanie Denton. Groomsmen were Brian Simmons, Chris Swindle and Aaron Blair.
Candlelighters were Mika Eded and Katie Burgess. Flower girls were Hannah-Kate Mulanax and Molly Mulanax. Ushers were Josh Rukes and Aaron Nelson.
A reception followed at Steve's Place, Lawrence.
The bride is a 2001 graduate of Santa Fe Trail High School, Carbondale. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Kansas University in 2005. She is employed as an assistant general manager of Sandstone Amphitheater, Bonner Springs.
The groom is a 2001 graduate of Leavenworth High School. He plans to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from KU in May. He joined the Army Reserves in 2000 and was placed in active status when he was commissioned overseas in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
The couple reside in Lawrence.
William "Sonny" and Sarah Peters celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on a cruise, The Grand Mediterranean, in September 2007. The trip was a gift from their daughter, Satin Kays.
William O. Peters Jr. and Sarah Housworth were married in Muskogee, Okla., March 28, 1958. Both are graduates of Lawrence High. Sonny attended Kansas University.
The couple had two children, Satin Kays, Lawrence, and the late Chris Peters.
The couple reside in Lawrence.
Volmut and States
Jennifer States and David Volmut, both of Richland, Wash., announce their engagement. Jennifer is the daughter of Jim and Mary States, North Platte, Neb. David is the son of Joyce Volmut, Topeka.
The bride-to-be is a graduate of North Platte Senior High School and Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln. She is employed as an energy specialist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She was previously employed at JW Prairie Wind Power LLC in Lawrence.
The future groom is a graduate of Topeka West High School and Kansas University. He is studying viticulture and enology at Yakima Valley Community College in Washington. He was previously employed at Sunflower Cablevision in Lawrence.
The couple plan an Aug. 31 wedding in Nebraska City, Neb.
Holthaus and Hestwood

The future bride graduated from Baker University School of Nursing. She is employed as a registered nurse for Saint Luke's Home Care and Shawnee Mission Medical Center's emergency department. She plans to graduate in 2009 with a Master of Health Administration degree.
The future groom graduated from Manhattan Area Technical College. He is employed as a lineman for Westar Energy in Lawrence.
The couple plan a July 26 wedding in Siesta Key, Fla. A reception will follow on Aug. 9 in Mission.

The bride-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Free State High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Kansas State University in 2005. She received a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction, reading and language arts, from KSU in 2007. She is a first grade teacher at Parker Elementary, Panama City, Fla.
The future groom is a 1999 graduate of Free State High School. He is a member of the United States Air Force stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Fla.
