Duane and Ruth Wyatt will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open reception with family and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building No.1.
Duane Wyatt Sr. and Ruth Carr were married July 6, 1958, in Lecompton. They lived in Lawrence, where they raised their four boys: Duane Jr., Jeff, Bryan and Doug. Duane worked for Woods Lumber Yard for 21 years. He was an active member and past president of the Eagles Lodge No. 309.
In 1979, they moved to Osage City, where they operated a hardware store until 1984. In 1981, Duane was elected president of the Osage City Chamber of Commerce. Duane and Ruth later moved to Topeka, where they worked for Jostens until Duane's retirement in 1996. The couple then returned to Lawrence, where Ruth worked for the city of Lawrence until her retirement in 2001.
The couple now reside in Eudora and are lifelong members of the Lawrence Wesleyan Church. They have 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Earl and Mary Schweppe, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 7 with a surprise reception hosted by their children.
Mary Woolston and Earl Schweppe were married on June 25, 1948.
They have three children: Marla Schweppe, Rochester, N.Y.; Roger and Darlene Schweppe, Topeka; and Eric Schweppe, Lawrence.
They have three grandchildren.
The couple have lived in Lawrence since 1968.
They request no gifts.
Arthur "Sonny" and Shirley Tarpy, Lawrence, were honored on April 27 with an open house reception to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
The event was hosted at their home by their children. About 75 friends and relatives attended.
Sonny Tarpy and Shirley Athey were married on April 30, 1958, in Lawrence.
The couple raised their children in Eudora before moving to their current residence, where Shirley ran a day care for several years and where they operated a home-grown fruit and vegetable business. Sonny retired from the Lawrence Public Works Department in 1995.
They have five children: the late Scott Tarpy and his wife, Coleen, Neosho Mo.; Allan Tarpy, Lawrence; Cathy Newton, Ozawkie; Becky Dilts, Lawrence; and Cheryl Apel, Lawrence.
They have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lindsey Clevenger and Dale Sleeper, both of Lawrence, were married June 21, 2008, at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. John McFarland officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Stephen Clevenger and Dani Sheltry, both of Lawrence.
The groom is the son of David and Pamela Mooney, Lawrence.
Maid of honor was Rachel Christenson. Best man was Jeff Parks. Bridesmaids were Shannon Holloway and Amanda McGinnis. Groomsmen were Brandon Clevenger and Andrew Mattson. Junior bridesmaids were Morgan Hemelrick, Laina Sleeper and Ruthie Sleeper. Flower girl was Alexia Clevenger. Ring bearer was Brayden Clevenger. Ushers were Aaron Hemelrick and Devon Pinegar. The bride is a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received an Associate of Science degree from Neosho County Community College in 2006. She is studying applied behavioral science at Kansas University.
The groom is a 1995 graduate of Lawrence High School. He is employed with Gregg Tire.
The couple reside in Lawrence.

The groom is a 1989 graduate of Shawnee Heights High School, Topeka. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting with a minor in art history from Kansas University in 1995. He is self-employed.
