Anniversary
Armstrong
Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Armstrong will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday with a family luncheon at their rural Baldwin City home.
Richard A. Armstrong and Ruby May Heffner were married April 20, 1958, at the Worden EUB Church. Theirs was the first marriage ceremony performed by the Rev. Abe. L. Klassen. Richard was a farmer, worked at a print shop and delivered office furniture. Ruby was a legal secretary and homemaker. Both are retired.
The couple has two children, Rheta M. and Kevin L. Becker, Olathe, and Richard A. Jr. and Susan Armstrong, Neosho, Mo., and seven grandchildren, Lance, Grant and Blake Becker, and Cassandra, Shayla, Roman and Elizabeth Armstrong.
Engagement
Thompson and Hoins
Ashley Hoins and Matthew Thompson, both of Mission, announce their engagement. Ashley is the daughter of George and Susan Hoins, Leavenworth, and Matthew is the son of Steve Thompson, Beloit, and Roxanne Unrein, Lawrence.
The bride-elect is a 2002 graduate of Immaculata High School and received a Bachelor's degree in human biology from Kansas University in 2006. She is working toward a Bachelor's degree in nursing at St. Luke's College and is interning at the neurosurgical intensive care unite at St. Luke's Hospital In Kansas City.
Her fiance is a 2002 graduate of Beloit High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry from KU in 2007. He is a student in the KU School of Medicine.
A July 18, 2008, wedding is planned at St. John's Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Engagement
Wingert and Johnson
Rick Johnson and Pam Loucks, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter, Kendra Emily Johnson, to Matthew Grant Wingert, son of Dennis Wingert and Cindy Wingert, both of Lawrence.
The bride-elect will graduate from Lawrence High School in May and plans to study radiology technology at Washburn University. Her fiance is a Lawrence High School graduate and an apprentice welder at the Local Union 441 training center in Topeka.
The couple are planning a Sept. 13, 2008, wedding at the First Southern Baptist Church.
Engagement
Erb and Gonnella
Tom and Karen Erb, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their son, Brian Erb, to Lauren Gonnella, New York City.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of Tom and Arlene Gonnella, Short Hills, N.J. She is a 2001 graduate of Millburn High School in New Jersey and a 2005 graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont. She currently is a master's degree student at Mercy College in New York City and is employed as a seventh-grade English teacher at M.S. No. 101 in The Bronx.
The future groom is a 2000 graduate of Free State High School and a 2004 graduate of Middlebury College. He received a master's degree from Mercy College in 2006. He is currently teaching science at Herbert Lehman High School in The Bronx, where he is an associate dean for special education.
The couple plan a July 12 wedding in the Inn at Round Barn Farm, Waitsfield, Vt.
