Anniversary

Beckman

Earl and Alietha Beckman, Lawrence, are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary today. A family celebration also was given on March 4.
Earl Beckman and Alietha Aspvik were married March 10, 1942, at the Aspvik home in Paddockwood, Saskatchewan, Canada.
A month after they were married, Earl left to serve in the Canadian Army during World War II. After his return, they purchased a farm in the Paddockwood area. The couple farmed until they moved to Lawrence in 1963.
Earl worked for Norris Brothers, American Electric and Stanion Wholesale Electric Co. Alietha worked for Hallmark Cards. They are active members of the Community of Christ church.
Their children are Bill and Sharon Beckman, Overland Park; Christine and Leon Winters, Lawrence; and Marilyn and Verlon Myers, Lawrence. They have seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and another great-grandson due to arrive any day.
The couple request no gifts.

Anniversary

Jahn

Samuel and Yoshie Jahn, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner this month.
Samuel Jahn and Yoshie Kanamori were married on March 19, 1957, in Shiner, Texas.
Yoshie earned a Master of Dress Design degree from Bunka Dressmaker's School in Tokyo.
She owned a dress shop in Nagoya, Japan, named Kanamori. In Lawrence, she taught dressmaking as a volunteer for the Small World program for more than 15 years.
Samuel earned a mechanical engineering degree in 1954 at Texas A&M University. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force for two years, and was employed as an engineer at E.I. DuPont until he retired.
Their children are Andrew Jahn, Allen, Texas; and Kenneth Jahn, Deborah Dillon and Clare Galloway, all of Lawrence.
They have eight grandchildren.

Allen and Vanek

Vanessa Vanek, Lawrence, and Robert Allen, Prestatyn, Wales, United Kingdom, announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Jama E. King, Lawrence. The future groom is the son of Julia A. Allen, Prestatyn.
Vanessa graduated from Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City. She received a degree in textile design in 1996 and a degree in visual art education in 2002, both from Kansas University. She is an art and design teacher at Topeka High School.
Robert graduated from Prestatyn High School.
He is employed as a music engineer and is working on soundtracks for two independent films. He also just released his first EP in the United Kingdom.
The couple plan a June 16, 2007, wedding at the home of Vanessa's grandparents, the late J.D. and Flora Rae King, formerly of Lawrence.

Engagement

Muzzy and Mann

Michael Mann and Leslie McFarland, both of Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter, Lindsay Mann, Chicago, to Taylor Muzzy, Chicago, the son of Terrence and Martha Muzzy, Honey Brook, Pa.
The future bride graduated from Lawrence High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Kansas University. She is pursuing a master's degree in community and school counseling at Roosevelt University. She is employed as a school counselor at UPLIFT Community High School.
The future groom graduated from Twin Valley High School in Pennsylvania and received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and Hispanic languages and literature from Boston University. He is pursuing a law degree at Chicago-Kent College of Law and is employed as a law clerk at Novoselsky Law Offices.
The couple plan a Sept. 1, 2007, wedding in Lawrence.

Blasing and Hensley

Cara Hensley and Jeremy Blasing, both of Leawood, announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Joe Hensley, Topeka, and Richie McDaneld, Tecumseh. The future groom is the son of Steve Blasing and Carolyn Blasing, both of Topeka.
Cara graduated from Topeka High School and Friends University. She is employed as an exercise physiologist in nuclear medicine at Cardiovascular Consultants in Kansas City, Mo.
Jeremy graduated from Washburn Rural High School in Topeka and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in business administration at Baker University. He is employed as a chart analyst at Cardiovascular Consultants. The couple are former residents of Lawrence.
The couple plan an April 7, 2007, wedding in Kauai, Hawaii.

Linhos-Parks
Erin Linhos and Matthew Parks were married on Oct. 14, 2006, in the garden at Osborne Chapel, Baker University, with Melissa Ness officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Bruce and Carol Linhos, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Merle and Betty Parks, Lawrence.
The maid of honor was Gretchen Linhos. The best man was Eric Beightel. Bridesmaids were Katie Turman, Doreen Hoff, Anne Marie Hoban and Jana Wiley.
Groomsmen were Andy Hudnall, Andy Congrove, Matt Schwartz and Isaac Wiley. Attendants were Katie Schwartzburg and Jocelyn Miller. Ushers were Adam Linhos, Chris Parks and Orion Creamer.
A reception was given at Pachamama's.
Erin and Matthew graduated from Lawrence High School in 1995. Erin graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1999. She is employed by Boston Scientific in Denver.
Matthew graduated from Kansas University in 2000 and is employed by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in Denver.
The couple reside in Denver.

Wedding

Burton

Tamara Salaty and Ben Burton were married on Jan. 20, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. The Rev. Dr. Gary Teske officiated, and Vicar David Whetter assisted.
The bride is the daughter of Tamerlan and Caroline Salaty, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Bradon and Deanna Burton, Manhattan.
The maid of honor was Kelly Harmon. The best man was Cody Burton. Bridesmaids were Madina Salaty, Jeni Prenger and Amy Jones. Groomsmen were Zac Burton, Cody Knepper and Ryan Riek. Ushers were Blake Bauer, Brian Rankin, Todd Fornkahl and Kelly Condray. The flower girl was Ames Burton. The acolyte was Alexa Harmon-Thomas. Guest book and program attendant was Tonya Lammers. Musicians for the ceremony were the Figaro String Quartet and Ben Keseley, organist. The wedding consultant was Carmen Hocking.
A reception and dinner were given in the Crystal Ballroom at the Eldridge Hotel. Music was provided by Scott Simpson.
Tamara graduated from Kansas University and is employed as a senior clinical research associate at Quintiles. Ben graduated from Kansas State University and is employed as an agency program specialist with The Sunflower Group.
The couple took a honeymoon trip to St. Lucia. They reside in Overland Park.

Michnick

Marci Wright and Steve Michnick were married on Jan. 20, 2007, at the Pilgrim Chapel in Kansas City, Mo., with Dr. Roger Coleman officiating.
The bride is the daughter of the late Robert Wright and the late Mary Kathryn Wright, formerly of Overland Park.
The groom is the son of Michael and Charlyne Michnick, Lawrence.
A reception was given at Piropos Restaurant in Kansas City, Mo.
Marci received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is employed by DST Systems. Steve received a Bachelor of Science in geophysics and a Master of Science in engineering management, both from the University of Kansas He is employed by DST Systems.

Engagement

Lown and Scheffler

Bill and Michelle Lown, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their son, Billy Lown, Lawrence, to Michelle Scheffler, Lawrence, the daughter of Mark and Janet Scheffler, Newton.
The future bride graduated from Newton High School and Kansas University. She is employed as a physical education teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, where she also coaches cross country and track.
The future groom graduated from Free State High School and attended KU. He plans to attend the horticulture program at Johnson County Community College in the fall.
The couple plan a June 30, 2007, wedding at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton.
