I'm surprised we don't have a repeat offender premium already.

OMFG! First you complain when people get drunk and drive. Then when they park their cars and catch a ride, only to find a parking ticket when they pick their cars up in the morning; you want to fine them even more. Can't smoke, can't drink, can't park...and Obama is the one taking away all our rights?

I think this is horrible. I received parking tickets for parking in front of where I live. Actually in was three tickets in three months. I called the police and told them of my frustration. Now, they do not come here no more. I explained that they sure do not ticket the people that park in no parking, in emergency parking. But, they go out of their way to ticket people for parking in front of their residence. What is going on in this town? Now you want to fine people for ridiculous parking tickets. I also received a parking ticket downtown when there was time on my meter. I do not think the parking ticket game is a the way for this town to get rich off of people. Seriously..... fine the people the wake me by fighting, playing music and partying all night. leave those alone that do not bother anyone. Trying to make money off of people so The city does not have to do their job. Give me a break.

I have always wondered what those who lived downtown did about their own cars, and now I see that living downtown with the noise and now this must royally suck.
Its just another way the city is trying to earn money, but of course, at the expense of those trying to live, work, and fund this city with their shopping dollars.
And then the city wonders why people shop out of town and online. Hate to say it, but there are no fines for spending too long on ebay. Practices like this drive people out of here, taking their sales tax out of Lawrence, creating school funding issues like what the city recently had to contend this.
Sometimes I wonder whose side the city is really on.

Here's a solution. Don't go downtown! I've always avoided it all costs. For my family, it has never been a place we have to be, and we have survived just fine.

Just another reason to not go downtown.

the downtown parking is for the folks who want to shop. Employees need to find parking a few blocks away or use the free parking garage. We are like any downtown in any city where one can find free parking if they can walk a block or two. Good for you health to walk. If you live downtown then get up early enough in the morning to move your car.

And if you're having to leave your car downtown regularly because you're too drunk to drive home, parking tickets are the least of your worries.

Employees or live in people can get a permit for all day parking in the city parking garage.

I WON'T SHOP DOWNTOWN JUST BECAUSE OF ALL THE PARKING METERS. MALLS ARE FREE.
mr_right_wing 3 years, 1 month ago
Come on, folks! 5 tickets in 30 days? That's basically one a week! Try and cut it down to 4 a month and there won't be any extra fine, besides the normal one charged per ticket. This is completely avoidable! You'll get no sympathy from me...

What alot of you all aren't thinking about are the people that work on Mass...they are the ones who are getting ticketed so much because the store owners like Weaver's etc. do not have anything set up for employee parking. In fact I do not know of too many busniesses that do on Mass.
So, no it is not completely avoidable and is happening to people who shouldn't have to pay exorbitant amounts of fees. Last I checked, the meter maids did not ticket after dark, when people are drinking. They are ticketing the working-class of Lawrence. Never a good thing...

I think "canusayduh" has it right. Just don't go downtown!
Isn'[t it amazing - the city of Larryville - all it wants is to come up with more and more ways to gouge people for more money. That's ALL it's about - money. I've never seen such a greedy bunch of &%tards!

Face it, parking downtown sucks!
