Dr. James F. Otten is a 1981 graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. He completed a one-year residency in hospital dentistry with emphasis on advanced restoration of teeth and oral surgery at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas. He taught fixed prosthodontics as an Associate Professor at UMKC, he then served as Chief of Staff of a large group practice in Fayetteville, Arkansas, before opening his practice in Lawrence, Kansas in 1984.

Among other educational achievements, Dr. Otten has completed the curriculum at the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education and the Center for Advanced Dental Education. In 1996 he was appointed to the visiting faculty of the L.D. Pankey Institute and currently serves as a member of the Associate Faculty, the Lead faculty, the Board of Directors, the Provost Committee and Curriculum Development Team for the Pankey Institute. Dr Otten also lectures both nationally and internationally to Dentists seeking to improve themselves, their practices and their lives in meaningful service to others.
