Support for both Intelligent Design and Flying Spaghetti Monsterism

I’d like to say that although I currently reside as an oscillation between Wisconsin and Oregon, I was pleased to hear about the decision to teach Intelligent Design and Evolution as biology curricula in Kansas. I came to this knowledge and to your website link through the website of the Flying Spaghetti Monster Prophet.

Anyway- Reasons: Evolution was taught in my school as if it was the only way to explain anything in the history of the world. I accepted this at the time – possibly because I was stupid and possibly because my teacher was not a good teacher. When I later learned about the arguments for I.D. (outside of school), I was surprised that I hadn’t heard it discussed or presented more widely. If Kansas teachers can effectively and accurately present the arguments for Creation, then students will not have to have the good fortune to chance hearing about it at an outside presentation. At least they’ll know that it’s out there and that it’s no more blind faith than secular science.

I hope that the curricula you choose to implement will be as solidly science-based and objective as possible, both for I.D. and Evolution. I think it’s important for students to be able to identify and discern between faith, facts, and evidence.

If nothing else, it will be good for high school students to know that there’s more than one possible, reasonable, scientific explanation for nature as we see it. And, since both ID and Evolution have their evidence, bias, leaps of faith, and beginning premises, hopefully the students will be encouraged to question how science is conducted and presented and learn more about the scientific community and the process of scientific analysis in general.

And, for the record, I don’t see nearly enough pirate regalia in schools these days, therefore I support the teaching of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, though I’d suggest that time be divided not necessarily based on the number of perspectives, but with consideration proportional to the amount of scientific discussion each can generate.

Also, it would be really fun to see a lawsuit here because I would love to see a trial in which the prosecutors must dress as pirates.
