George and Sheila Schmitendorf celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner July 27. They were married July 25, 1948, at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence.
George was a radio and television repairman for many years and later ran an antique store in downtown Lawrence before retiring. Sheila was a child care provider for many years and retired from Hallmark in 1991.
Their children are George III, Glendale, Ariz.; Chester, Lawrence; Sandy Cordill and husband Dean, Topeka; Thomas and wife Jennifer, Lawrence; and Rose Kopf, Lawrence.
They have 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Rod and Margie Hinkle, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today downstairs at the Lawrence Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.
Glenn Rod Hinkle and Margie Moore were married Aug. 17, 1958, in Indianapolis.
Rod and Margie met at Manhattan Christian College as students. They have served in the ministry in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. They served at Lawrence Heights Christian Church from 1979 to 2000 and are currently ministering at North Lawrence Christian Church.
Their children are Thaddeus Hinkle, Mankato; Bradford Hinkle, Lawrence; and Chadwick and Teresa Hinkle, Lawrence.
They have five grandchildren.

Rex is retired from Goodyear in Topeka. He is employed with Del Monte Foods in Lawrence. Maxine is a homemaker.

Larry and Mary James will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren at the New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park.
Larry James and Mary Speicher were married Aug. 22, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.
Larry graduated from KC Automotive and Diesel School, and Mary worked in bookkeeping and secretarial positions after training in the field. In 1969, they opened an automotive supply and machine shop operation in Lawrence, Larry's Auto Supply Inc. They owned and operated the business for 30 years.
Honoring the event are their three children: Ronda and Jeff Riner, Lecompton; Randy and Robyn James, Manhattan; and Rachelle and Dennis Vigna, Baldwin City.
They have seven grandchildren.
The couple reside at their rural Lecompton home of 50 years.
Lowell and Caroll Eye will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open reception for family and friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building No. 21. The event will be hosted by their children and assisted by their grandchildren.
Lowell Eye and Caroll Adee were married Aug. 24, 1958, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Abilene.
Lowell retired from the Santa Fe Railway offices in 1993 after 38 years. Caroll worked for the Lyndon public schools for eight years and was a homemaker.
Their children are Lorrie Wiseman and her husband, Tom, Lawrence; and Daniel Eye, Baldwin City.
They have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
