Anniversary

Schmitendorf

George and Sheila Schmitendorf celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner July 27. They were married July 25, 1948, at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence.
George was a radio and television repairman for many years and later ran an antique store in downtown Lawrence before retiring. Sheila was a child care provider for many years and retired from Hallmark in 1991.
Their children are George III, Glendale, Ariz.; Chester, Lawrence; Sandy Cordill and husband Dean, Topeka; Thomas and wife Jennifer, Lawrence; and Rose Kopf, Lawrence.
They have 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Anniversary

Hinkle

Rod and Margie Hinkle, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today downstairs at the Lawrence Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.
Glenn Rod Hinkle and Margie Moore were married Aug. 17, 1958, in Indianapolis.
Rod and Margie met at Manhattan Christian College as students. They have served in the ministry in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. They served at Lawrence Heights Christian Church from 1979 to 2000 and are currently ministering at North Lawrence Christian Church.
Their children are Thaddeus Hinkle, Mankato; Bradford Hinkle, Lawrence; and Chadwick and Teresa Hinkle, Lawrence.
They have five grandchildren.

Schneider and Paavola

Michael Paavola and Denise Eggers, along with Cliff Schneider and Bonnie Schneider, announce the engagement of their children, Jaymie Dawn Paavola and Brett Allan Schneider.
The future bride is a graduate of Oskaloosa High School. She is attending Friends University of Topeka and majoring in business management. She will graduate in April.
The future groom is a graduate of Jefferson County North High School. He is a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The couple will exchange vows on Sept. 13, 2008, at the Ozawkie United Methodist Church.
A reception will follow at the Lawrence Holidome.

Randy and Tracy Asberry along with Joe and Robin Smart announce the engagement of their children, Barbara Asberry and Kristopher Smart, all of Lawrence.
The future bride is a 2001 graduate of Lawrence High School and is employed with Vangent in Lawrence.
The future groom is a 2002 graduate of McLouth High School and is employed with UPS in Lawrence.
The couple plan an Aug. 30, 2008, wedding at First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence.

The future bride is a graduate of Albert Gallatin Senior High School in Pennsylvania. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Kansas University. She is a research specialist for Vangent in Lawrence.
The future groom is a graduate of Glenbrooke North High School in Chicago. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from KU. He is also a research specialist for Vangent in Lawrence.
The couple plan a June 27, 2009, wedding at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence.

Robert and Patricia Biszantz, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandi Biszantz, to Brad Howard, both of Lakeland, Fla. Brad is the son of Stephen and Beverly Howard, Pompano Beach, Fla.
The future bride is a 2000 graduate of Free State High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Truman State University in 2003. She earned a juris doctorate from the University of Florida's Levin College of Law in 2007. She is an attorney with Clark, Campbell & Mawhinney in Lakeland.
The future groom is a 1998 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, Ill. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from Truman State University in 2003. He is a financial adviser with Allen & Company in Lakeland.
The couple plan a May 1, 2009, wedding at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lakeland.

John and Janet Bennett, Stilwell, and Dianna and Mark Meyer, Kansas City, Mo., announce the engagement of their daughter, Natalie Bennett, to Dirck Hoagland, son of Joe and Norma Hoagland, Leavenworth.
Natalie graduated from Lawrence High School in 2001 and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Kansas State University. She is a part-time teacher in the Park Hill, Mo., school district.
Dirck graduated from Lansing High School in 1999 and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Tulane University. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Solvay Business School in Brussels, Belgium. He is the president and CEO of Racket Group in Kansas City, Mo.
The couple plan an Oct. 18, 2008, wedding at the Country Club Congregational Church in Brookside, Mo.

Melissa Kay Edgerton and Travis Allen Crum, both of Eudora, were married July 19, 2008, at Unity Church of Lawrence, with the Rev. Don Cunningham officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Jim and Peggy Edgerton, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Mike and Mary Higgins, Lawrence, and the late Thomas Crum.
Maid of honor was Tara Honeyman. Best man was Ryan Crum. Bridesmaids were Shawna Bowden, Genevieve Crum and Denice Brewer. Groomsmen were Kevin Grammer, Jeff Cassity and Rob Brewer. Flower girls were Halie Honeyman and Riley Honeyman, Kayla Bowden, Alyssa Crum and Addyson Crum. Ring bearers were Tyler Bowden and Carter Honeyman. Ushers were Michael Honeyman, Mark Bowden and Wade Mooney.
A reception followed at the Eagles Lodge in Lawrence.
The bride is a 2001 graduate of Free State High School and is employed with Vangent Inc.
The groom is a 1998 graduate of Lawrence High School and is employed with Montgomery Door Controls Inc.

Buttram

Rex and Maxine Buttram, Oskaloosa, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the American Legion in Perry.
Rex Buttram and Maxine Heston were married Aug. 23, 1958, in Perry.
Rex is retired from Goodyear in Topeka. He is employed with Del Monte Foods in Lawrence. Maxine is a homemaker.
Their children are Brian and Vickie Buttram, Oskaloosa; Lynn and Bill McQuillan, Wathena; Debbie Ussery, Lecompton, and the late Cheryl Carver and her surviving husband, Jerry Carver, Ozawkie.
They have 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pritchard

Phil and Dorothy Pritchard will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends with a backyard party from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 31 at 215 Main St. in Pomona. The open house will be hosted by their children, Rick and Jayme Pritchard, Little Rock, Ark.; Marilyn and Clark Wedel, Moundridge; and Debi and Brian Sweet, Chapman; and their seven grandchildren.
The couple married Sept. 6, 1958, in Babenhausch, Germany.
Dorothy worked for the Baldwin school district for 20 years, and Phil worked for Hallmark Inc., Lawrence, for 23 years.

James

Larry and Mary James will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren at the New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park.
Larry James and Mary Speicher were married Aug. 22, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.
Larry graduated from KC Automotive and Diesel School, and Mary worked in bookkeeping and secretarial positions after training in the field. In 1969, they opened an automotive supply and machine shop operation in Lawrence, Larry's Auto Supply Inc. They owned and operated the business for 30 years.
Honoring the event are their three children: Ronda and Jeff Riner, Lecompton; Randy and Robyn James, Manhattan; and Rachelle and Dennis Vigna, Baldwin City.
They have seven grandchildren.
The couple reside at their rural Lecompton home of 50 years.

Eye

Lowell and Caroll Eye will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open reception for family and friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building No. 21. The event will be hosted by their children and assisted by their grandchildren.
Lowell Eye and Caroll Adee were married Aug. 24, 1958, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Abilene.
Lowell retired from the Santa Fe Railway offices in 1993 after 38 years. Caroll worked for the Lyndon public schools for eight years and was a homemaker.
Their children are Lorrie Wiseman and her husband, Tom, Lawrence; and Daniel Eye, Baldwin City.
They have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
