Don’t be alarmed if you see emergency responders and a lot of other people standing outside of City Hall on Tuesday — it’s only a drill.

City Hall, 6 E. Sixth St., will be holding its evacuation drill at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, the city announced in a news release. People downtown at that time “may see a large group of City staff leaving the building and hear the fire alarm sound,” the release said, and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical and the Lawrence Police Department will also be taking part.

“The drill is part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve safety at City Hall and make sure staff are practiced and prepared to evacuate quickly and calmly in the event of a real emergency,” the release said.

Services at City Hall will be briefly interrupted during the drill, but normal business operations will resume once staff is back in the building.
