A Lawrence man has been charged with two felonies after he allegedly broke down another man’s door and threatened him with a knife, according to Lawrence police and court documents.

Lawrence police spokeswoman Laura McCabe said officers were dispatched just after 2 a.m. Wednesday to a reported home invasion at an apartment building in the 1500 block of West Ninth Street. The apartment resident told police that a man he knew broke down his door and confronted him with a knife, McCabe said; the resident said he then also grabbed a knife and the man left after that. No injuries were reported, and McCabe said police arrested the suspect at a nearby apartment without incident.

The suspect, Timothy Michael Foust, 49, is charged in Douglas County District Court with one felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one felony count of aggravated burglary and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage, according to charging documents. He is being held on a $20,000 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Foust is facing similar charges from an incident that took place on Oct. 29, 2023, at the same apartment complex. At that time, the police department posted on social media that a suspect “allegedly kicked in a neighbor’s door” and later, when confronted by officers, “grabbed a knife, and began advancing toward the officers while demanding they shoot him.” Officers used a Taser to stop the suspect and arrest him, the post said. In that case, Foust is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of misdemeanor criminal damage.
