A support staff member at Free State High School who previously worked at West Middle School has been placed on administrative leave pending a police investigation, according to the Lawrence school district.

The district did not share details about the investigation, as the district has characterized it as a confidential personnel matter to protect “the privacy rights of the individuals involved.”

“We are unable to share additional information at this time,” district spokeswoman Julie Boyle said in an email to the Journal-World.

The Journal-World has also reached out to the Lawrence Police Department about the matter, but has not received a response.

Boyle did say that Free State administration had received a student report of a safety concern “regarding the conduct” of the staff member. She said that parents and staff at both Free State and West had been notified Friday about the matter and that the individual had been removed from employment pending the investigation.

Boyle said the district would take “appropriate action” based on the findings of the investigation.
