2 injured in shooting in eastern Lawrence; man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Two people were injured in a shooting in eastern Lawrence on Thursday night, police say, and a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The Lawrence Police Department posted on social media that the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of 16th Street and Haskell Avenue. Two people, one male and one female, were taken to a trauma center, the post said; both are expected to fully recover.

LPD said in a news release that officers searched for “potential suspects” using drones and police dogs and brought several people in for questioning. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Eudora Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.

According to Douglas County Jail booking records, Jaystyn James Curtiss, 19, of Lawrence, was arrested on suspicion of intentional and premeditated attempted murder in the first degree. He is being held without bond.
