Crash on South Lawrence Trafficway closes highway temporarily, sends 2 to hospital with minor injuries

A two-vehicle crash briefly closed the South Lawrence Trafficway on Monday morning and sent two people to hospitals with minor injuries, according to law enforcement reports.
The crash happened after 9 a.m. on Monday, according to a social media post from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and both the sheriff’s office and the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to it. It was about halfway between Clinton Parkway and West 27th Street.
According to the Highway Patrol’s online crash logs, a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the center line and sideswiped an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu. Both drivers were believed to have minor injuries, the report said; the driver of the Jeep was taken to LMH Health, and the driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Stormont Vail in Topeka.
The highway was shut down between Clinton Parkway and West 27th while first responders worked. It was reopened around 10:30 a.m.
