A man who pointed a fake rifle at two people out of the backseat window of a car was convicted of felony criminal threat on Tuesday in Douglas County District Court.
Tzaddi Fouch Jennings, 33, was originally charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which the criminal complaint listed as an AR-style gun. It later turned out, though, that the weapon was “a toy airsoft” gun, in the words of the prosecutor.
As a factual basis for the lesser crime of criminal threat that Jennings pleaded no contest to, prosecutor Adam Carey told Judge Amy Hanley that police were called to the Sixth Street and Kasold Drive area on March 16 for suspicious activity involving weapons. When they arrived they approached a vehicle and determined that someone in the backseat, later identified as Jennings, had pointed a toy airsoft gun at two people in a vehicle at a nearby intersection who believed the gun to be real and who feared for their safety.
Jennings is scheduled to be sentenced on June 2. Carey told Hanley that Jennings has previous convictions for burglary, forgery, escape from custody, theft and interference with law enforcement.
