Cir Allen Keith Glover appears for his arraignment Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, in Douglas County District Court.

A Lawrence teen accused of shooting another teen to death in June pleaded not guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder, and the court scheduled his trial to begin on Jan. 27.

The defendant, Cir Allen Keith Glover, 19, is accused of killing Isaiah Neal, 17, on June 13 outside of Neal’s home, as the Journal-World reported. The prosecution has argued that Neal was shot in the back seven times with his own handgun after the two teens had a late-night confrontation. Witnesses at Glover’s recent preliminary hearing testified that the two had previously been lifelong friends.

Glover was originally charged with second-degree murder, but after hearing hours of testimony at Glover’s two-part preliminary hearing earlier this fall, Judge Stacey Donovan found probable cause to order him to stand trial on the more serious charge of first-degree murder.

Glover waived a formal reading of the complaint Wednesday in Donovan’s courtroom, which was filled with supporters of Neal.

The parties are anticipating that the trial will take five days. Glover is in custody on a $1 million bond.
