The University of Kansas police are still trying to find the person who raised a Texas flag above Fraser Hall in November.

“The case is still open,” said Deputy Chief James Anguiano with KU’s Public Safety Office.

On Nov. 23, the Texas flag was spotted flying in place of the KU flag on top of the university building as the KU football team hosted the University of Texas.

Because the incident occurred during KU’s Thanksgiving break, few people were on campus. No witnesses reported seeing anyone enter Fraser Hall, which was locked at the time, Anguiano said.

However, multiple people noticed the Texas flag flying and reported it to the KU police, who were dispatched to the scene, where the flag was quickly removed.

According to KU’s online police log, “an individual entered a secured area without permission and the case was listed as criminal trespassing.”

While some people might dismiss the incident as simply a prank, a law was broken, Anguiano said.

“In this case, we have the criminal trespass aspect and entry made into a locked building,” Anguiano said.

Even though KU’s campus has now cleared out for winter break, Anguiano said it was important for the public to remember that the KU police are still on duty.

“We are open 24/7, and we are out patrolling,” Anguiano said. “As the holidays approach, if people see things, they need to let us know.”
