Residents will have another chance next month to share their input on the future development of North Lawrence.
The city announced in a news release Friday that an open house for the ongoing North Lawrence corridor study will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Venue 1235, 1235 N. Third St. There will be no formal presentation, and people can come and go as they please and share their input on the study.
As the Journal-World has reported, the nearly $400,000 study will help inform future decisions about areas north of the Kansas River and just to the south of it, including the former Riverfront Mall property. It’s being led by consulting firm HNTB.
The city hosted a similar open house in December 2025, but since then, the study has progressed significantly. Among other things, the consultants are exploring potential uses for spaces in North Lawrence, including a multi-use development near the turnpike interchange, possibly with a grocery store, and housing and recreational amenities along the levee.
