Westlake Ace Hardware will host the Salvation Army Fans for Families drive at both Lawrence locations Saturday morning.

Event organizers encourage the public to stop by a Westlake store, 601 Kasold Drive or 711 W. 23rd St., to purchase a fan for a family in need this summer. Fans will be available for a discounted price and all cash donations received that day will be used to purchase fans.

Volunteers from local agencies will be on hand at Westlake stores that morning to accept fans.

Heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, the Salvation Army news release said, and causes hundreds of fatalities each year. Older adults, young children and those with medical conditions are especially susceptible to heat-releated illnesses.
