Lawrence man released on bond in indecent liberties case involving Texas teen

A Lawrence man accused of having sex with a Texas teenager and helping her run away from home to Lawrence was released last week from the Douglas County Jail on $25,000 bond.

During his July 23 first appearance in district court, Ricky Lynn Bacon Jr., 33, said he didn’t expect to make it out of jail when his bond was set at $75,000. At that time, a prosecutor and a judge said Bacon was a flight risk.

His bond was later reduced and as a condition, a judge ordered him to live with his mother, not to leave the state and not to have contact with girls under 18, according to court records. He posted bond and was released from jail Sept. 3, according to the sheriff’s office.

Bacon faces felony charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and contributing to a child’s misconduct because prosecutors say he helped 15-year-old Ashley Brown, a runaway from Katy, Texas, come to Lawrence. The two also had plans to go to Colorado, a prosecutor said.

Texas investigators traced Brown to Lawrence, after they discovered she had signed into her MySpace account here, which helped police find her and Bacon on July 21 at a residence in the 700 block of Connecticut Street.

The Journal-World generally does not name suspects in sex crimes unless they are convicted, but the scope of this case across multiple states, including the public search for the child, spurred the decision to name Bacon.
