A judge on Wednesday set a $75,000 bond for a man accused of having sex with a Texas teenager and helping her run away from home to Lawrence.
Ricky Lynn Bacon Jr., 33, was calm as he made his first appearance in court and said he didn't expect to make it out of jail on bond.
Judge Jean Shepherd agreed with the bond request of Assistant Douglas County District Attorney Brenda Clary, who said Bacon was a flight risk.
He faces felony charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and contributing to a child's misconduct because prosecutors say he helped 15-year-old Ashley Brown, a runaway from Katy, Texas, come to Lawrence within the last month. The two also had plans to go to Colorado, Clary said.
Texas investigators recently discovered the girl had signed into her MySpace account in Lawrence, which helped police find her and Bacon on Monday at a residence in the 700 block of Connecticut Street.
The girl is scheduled to be returned to Texas.
The Journal-World generally does not name suspects in sex crimes unless they are convicted, but the scope of this case across multiple states, including the public search for the child, spurred the decision to name Bacon.

GR - are you kidding me? She's 15 - not 18! Plus we're not talking about two teenagers here - he is 33.

Does the Mann Act still apply? Transporting a juvenile female across state lines for immoral purposes is a federal rap.

Good thing Judge Paula Martin wasn't involved. This perv would've had a bond set at $5.
