How does your garden grow?

The Journal-World's home and garden writer, Carol Boncella, is looking for area gardens to feature on the Home & Garden page this summer.

If you know of an unusual or vibrant garden, e-mail her at gardenspot@ljworld.com.

Artistic family banks on gallery, retail business

This week "Home and Away" host Cathy Hamilton, right, travels to Gardner to see how a family of artists turned an old bank building into a unique gallery and retail space.

And the Sunrise Garden Center highlights ornamental crabapple trees in full bloom.

A new show airs at 6:30 p.m. each Monday on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 and repeats at 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The show is also broadcast at 9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

Evaluate daffodils now

If your daffodils flowered weakly or not at all this spring, they probably need to be dug up, separated and replanted in September.

Other factors diminish blooming, including placement in dense shade, lack of fertilizing and the practice of folding foliage after blooms have faded.

Mark poorly performing daffodil beds now, and plan to replant the bulbs this fall.
