The University of Kansas’ debate squad now has three teams qualified to compete for the national championship later this month.

KU already had its top-ranked team make the field for the National Debate Tournament to be held March 31 through April 4 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.. But recent competitions have produced two other teams that will participate in the championships.

Graham Revare, sophomore from Shawnee, and Ryan Snow, senior from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, qualified through a district tournament. Jimin Park, junior from Topeka, and Jet Semrick, junior from Prairie Village, were selected as an at-large team by the NDT Selection Committee. Mickey McMahon, junior from Leawood, and Michael Scott, junior from Glenview, Illinois, already had been selected as an automatic first-round, at-large qualifier based on ranking as one of the top 16 teams in the country.

By having three teams in the championship tournament, KU goes in as one of the top-ranked debate teams in the country. Only six schools are allowed to qualify three teams for the National Debate Tournament. This is the seventh consecutive year that KU has been a three-team qualifier. Other universities that made that list this year include: Emory University, Harvard University, Liberty University, the University of Michigan and Wake Forest University.
