The Lawrence Public Library will host an exhibit of new WPA-style posters depicting Douglas County green areas.

The exhibit is an expansion of a popular exhibit last summer that featured Lawrence parks and green spaces.

The new series of artworks, “See Douglas County Parks & Green Spaces,” debuted in the Douglas County Visitors Guide and opens July 1 at the library. The exhibit is sponsored by the LPL Friends & Foundation.

The series features eight additional Lawrence artists with new illustrations of parks and green spaces in Lawrence, Baldwin, Eudora and other parts of the county, according to a news release from the library.

“These Douglas County-inspired artworks feature a modern take on the majestic style of the 1930s-era WPA National Parks posters,” said Friends & Foundation board member Mary Gage in the news release. Gage is also the project’s creator and organizer.

“And like last year, they are truly stunning,” she said.

A special “Meet the Artists” event is scheduled for July 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. on the library lawn during the Friends & Foundation’s monthly book sale.
