The locally filmed thriller “One Eye Open” will have multiple Lawrence showings beginning this week.
The award-winning film, written and directed by Lawrence resident Michael Coffey, was released in select AMC theaters earlier this month and will play at Liberty Hall from Thursday until Nov. 1.
Ahead of the 7:30 p.m. show on Oct. 30, there will be a red-carpet event, then a question-and-answer session with the audience. Coffey said he was hoping to have a lot of the cast and film crew at the event.
The film features the late RJ Mitte of “Breaking Bad” fame, Chris Bylsma (“El Camino”) and Maximiliano Hernandez (“Avengers: Endgame”), along with newcomer Kushi Beauchamp and retired KU film professor Kevin Willmott in a cast of 13.
The movie, shot in 2024 at the mid-19th century brick mansion in the 1600 block of Tennessee Street known as the Ludington-Thacher House, is about a recent college graduate who is house-sitting for her ailing grandfather and becomes involved in a “deadly cat-and-mouse game with thieves who become haunted by something supernatural protecting her in the mysterious mansion,” as Coffey has described it.
