Drivers who rely on Tennessee Street to pass south through the downtown area may need to adjust their plans for the next couple of months.
Access from Sixth Street onto Tennessee Street will close Thursday as construction begins on a right-turn lane leading up to that intersection, the city announced Wednesday in a news release.
Temporary lane closures may be needed at times until the project is complete, possibly around the end of August, the city said. Drivers are encouraged to use Vermont Street to get around the construction, as access to Tennessee Street will remain open at Seventh Street.
The approximately $500,000 project aims to improve traffic flow on the roadway, and the city is helping to fund the project with a $250,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation, the Journal-World previously reported.
