An anonymous donor will be contributing up to $10,000 to the Lawrence Public Library, promising to provide a dollar-for-dollar match to the library’s long-term endowment for every dollar the community provides for immediate library needs.

The idea for the donation came from the upcoming merger of two fundraising groups that support the library — the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library and the Lawrence Public Library Foundation — which will be effective Jan. 1, according Kathleen Morgan, director of development and community partnerships at the library. She noted that, traditionally, the Friends have supported the immediate needs of the library while the Foundation focused on its long-term needs.

Donations can be made online at lplff.org and need to be made by Dec. 31 to receive the match.
