The bus fleet serving the City of Lawrence and University of Kansas has a new look.

Lawrence Transit announced updates to its bus fleet in a news release Tuesday morning. According to the release, 80% of the nearly $300,000 project to print and install new exterior wraps for the buses was funded through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Access, Innovation and Collaboration grant program.

The updated fleet now sports a cohesive color palette, a modernized Lawrence Transit logo and a Phoenix Flame graphic representing the City of Lawrence. Some buses that have a special feature or operate a certain service are also labeled, such as the hybrid and electric vehicles in the fleet.

According to the release, three community artists — David Gnojek, Iris Cliff and Tokeya Richardson — worked with Lawrence Transit to design paint schemes for the city’s electric buses.

“We’re excited not only to bring a fresh look to the bus fleet, but to take a step that provides consistency to riders for how all buses look,” Transit and Parking Manager Adam Weigel said in the release. “The city and KU have worked hard on coordination across operations, grants and studies, and this is another great example of that.”
