Douglas County election returns: Final, unofficial vote totals from county, legislative races

UPDATE: 11 P.M.
An election that featured voter turnout of just less than 18% in Douglas County produced a slate of winners in Democratic and Republican primaries on Tuesday. Results are still unofficial. They won’t become official until Douglas County officials certify the election in the coming days. Here’s a look at the unofficial results for area races.

Kansas House 42

In other races, Baldwin City resident and former Congresswoman Nancy Boyda handily won the Douglas County vote in U.S. House of Representatives 2nd District over former KU basketball player Matt Kleinmann by a margin of 901 to 333. Former Attorney General Derek Schmidt easily won the Douglas County vote on the Republican ticket in that race. He had 941 votes, for 49% of the vote in five-way race. Next closest was Shawn Tiffany with 384 votes.
U.S Rep. Tracey Mann narrowly beat his Republican opponent Eric Bloom in Douglas County results in First District Congressional race. Mann won 52% to 47%. Mann will face Lawrence resident Paul Buskirk in the General Election.
Multiple Douglas County officials and state legislators ran unopposed on Tuesday. They include: Jamie Shew, County Clerk; Adam Rains, County Treasurer; Kent Brown, Register of Deeds; Jay Armbrister, Sheriff; Mike Amyx, House District 45; and Barbara Ballard, House District 44.
UPDATE 9:10 P.M.
Incumbent Shannon Reid has about a 200 vote lead in her race to be the Democratic nominee County Commission District 2. City Commissioner Lisa Larsen held an early lead in this race, but now with just two precincts left to report trails 56% to 43%.
Sen. Marci Francisco is on track to hold her seat in the Kansas Senate. She’s up 56% to 43% over Rep. Christina Haswood. She’ll face a Republican opponent in the General Election, but do so in a heavily Democratic district.
Dakota Loomis is a runaway winner for the Democratic nomination for District attorney. He’s won 63% of the vote with 92% of the vote counted. Incumbent DA Suzanne Valdez may not win 10% of the vote. She’s at 9.39% currently.
We are very near having unofficial results for the night. Just four precincts remain to be counted.
Other likely winners based on the latest results are:

• County Commission District 4, Democrat: Gene Dorsey, 61%
• County Commission District 5, Democrat: Erica Anderson, 56%
• State Rep. 10, Democratic: Suzanne Wikle, 90%
UPDATE 8:40 P.M.
Incumbent Shannon Reid has taken a nearly 200 vote lead over challenger Lisa Larsen in the County Commission District 2 race. About 65% of the vote is reporting in that race.
Dakota Loomis continues to cruise to victory in the DA race with a more than 2,000 vote lead on Tonda Hill. Incumbent Suzanne Valdez trails by about 3,500 votes.
The race for Senate District 2 has tightened some. Francisco leads by about 500 votes with 61% of the vote now counted.

Loomis continues to lead big in the DA race, with 60% of the vote, while challenger Hill is at 30% and incumbent Valdez is still polling below 10%.
The County Commission District 2 race between Larsen and Reid continues to be close, with the City Commissioner Larsen holding a small lead over incumbent Reid. That race is 52% to 47%.
In the Kansas Senate 2 race, Francisco continues to hold a big lead over Haswood, 60% to 40%.
In County Commission District 4, Dorsey maintains a lead over Kelso, 56% to 43%. In District 5 the race between Erica Anderson and Nicholas Matthews has tightened, with Anderson leading 53% to 46%. In District 3, Republicans Pam McDermott and John Landon are seeking the GOP nomination. McDermott has a healthy lead of 60% to 40%.
Overall, 14 of 101 precincts have reported as of this last Douglas County update. In other words, the races are still in their early stages, but Loomis and Francisco are building big early leads.

Sen. Marci Francisco has jumped out to an early lead in her race with Rep. Christina Haswood in the rare Democratic primary that features two elected officials.
Dakota Loomis took a 600 vote lead in his race to unseat incumbent District Attorney Suzanne Valdez.
In Douglas County Commission races, Lawrence City Commissioner Lisa Larsen held slight advantage over incumbent County Commissioner Shannon Reid. Gene Dorsey took a larger lead in the Douglas County District 4 race, with 58% of the vote over Democratic opponent Mike Kelso.
In House District 10, which is the south Lawrence district that has been represented by Haswood, Democrat Suzanne Wikle is cruising to victory with 91% of the vote.
Douglas County election officials have released the first round of tabulated results. The results include all of the 2,900 ballots that were cast by mail and advance, which at times have provided a good sample of voting patterns in the county. Here’s a look at the results thus far:
