Two hospitalized after head-on collision on K-10

Douglas County emergency crews and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers investigate a two-car accident Wednesday morning on K-10 highway at East 1900 Road. One person was taken by helicopter to KU Hospital.

A 38-year-old Lawrence woman was flown to Kansas University Hospital and a 24-year-old Merriam man was taken by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center after a two-car head-on collision Wednesday morning on Kansas Highway 10 near East 1900 Road, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Kristen Dymacek said.

Dymacek said that it appears the accident happened about 9:45 a.m., when an eastbound vehicle at K-10 mile marker 7 veered into the westbound lane and struck another vehicle head on. It is unclear at this point in the investigation which victim was responsible for the crossover that caused the accident.

Douglas County emergency crews closed a stretch of the highway from County Road 1057 to the East Hills Business Park while investigating the crash, Dymacek said. The road had been reopened around 11 a.m.

The victims’ identities have not been disclosed as of 11:30 a.m. It is unclear whether they were wearing seat belts.
