Burglar strikes same property two days in a row, escapes after battering resident

Police are looking for a burglar who struck the same storage unit two days in a row this week and battered a Lawrence resident who caught him in the act.

A Lawrence resident had reported several items stolen Sunday from a storage unit in the basement of a property in the 2100 block of Kasold Drive, Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, said. Among the items were a table saw, assorted hand tools and two motorcycle helmets. About 4 p.m. Monday, the victim discovered the burglar returning to loot the storage unit a second time, confronted the man and pinned him up against a wall.

The burglar persuaded the property owner to let him go, McKinley said, promising to return the stolen items. But when released, the burglar struck the resident and fled on foot. Police describe the burglar as a white man, about 6 feet tall and about 30 years old, with a scruffy beard.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-830-7430.
