A Valley Falls man died and a McLouth man was taken to Kansas University Hospital following a single-vehicle accident Sunday in Jefferson County.
According to a news release issued by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Todd Scott Erickson of Valley Falls was found dead at the scene after the Ford F-350 he was a passenger in rolled over on Fairview Road, northeast of Oskaloosa, shortly before 1 p.m.
The driver, David K. McHenry of McLouth, was driving when "he lost control of the vehicle and overturned several times." McHenry was taken by air ambulance to Kansas University Hospital in serious condition.

thoughts and prayers to the Erickson family. Having a large pick-up like a f-350 several times generally means the driver was going way to fast. Even though he probably knew the road, he still messed up. Speed kills. maybe someday someone will believe it.

Scott was in my Brother's class in school. I've known him most of his life. It was his only son too, right? So sad. My Prayers are with him.

He has an older son as well. They lived just down the road from me growing up... Great guys (all of them).

The map doesn't give you a true idea of where the accident happened. It is nowhere near 16 HWY. Fairview Rd is about 1/2 mile North of Oskaloosa's city limits on 59 HWY. It runs between 59HWY and Wellman Rd. Approximately 3 miles. It's a curvy, narrow 2 lane road.

Fairview is a pretty rough strech. Also a pretty saturated area as far as animals. No idea what happened in this case, but I ended up in a field out there last fall (thankfully upright).

Are you talking about deer, raccoons, opossums, dogs?

Oh, some of everything. I haven't seen too many dogs in the road along there, but many many wild animals at different times. The time I went off through there, there were two pretty good sized calves in the road right behind a curve, and when I tried to go around them, I caught the side of the road, and it was over. No injuries, and was able to drive out, but it could have gone much worse.
