Person dies early Sunday in one-vehicle accident in Jefferson County

One person died in a single-vehicle accident in Ozawkie during the weekend, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig.

Police responded to a report of vehicle on fire about 3:20 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Quail Hill and Valley View roads in Lake Shores Estates Improvement District, Herrig said.

Investigators on scene determined the fire resulted from an accident, which killed the driver, Herrig said. The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas State Fire Marshal also assisted in the investigation.

Herrig said officials are withholding the name of the victim, pending positive identification.
