Forum for local and state offices set for Monday at Douglas County Courthouse

A candidate forum for seven local and state races will be held on Monday at the Douglas County Courthouse.

The event, which is free and open to the public, kicks off at 6:30 p.m. in the county commission chambers. The forum is sponsored by the Voter Education Coalition and 6News and will be broadcast live on Channel 6. The Voter Education Coalition is a non-partisan organization founded to promote civil dialogue and voter participation.

Some questions for the candidates will be prepared in advance and others will be accepted from the audience as time permits. The forums will be moderated by Ann Gardner, editorial page editor of the Lawrence Journal-World; and Cory Smith, 6New anchor.

Thirty minutes will be allotted each race on the following schedule:

6:30 p.m. — State Board of Education, District 4: Carolyn Campbell, Democrat; Jack Wu, Republican.

7 p.m. — Douglas County Commission, District 2: Frank Male, Republican; Nancy Thellman, Democrat.

7:30 p.m. — Kansas Senate, District 2: Ron Ellis, Republican; Marci Francisco, Democrat.

8 p.m. — Kansas Senate, District 3: Anthony Brown, Republican; Tom Holland, Democrat.

8:30 p.m. — Kansas Senate, District 19: Anthony Hensley, Democrat; Casey Moore, Republican.

9 p.m. — Kansas House, District 44: Barbara Ballard, Democrat; Patrick Bengtson, Republican.

9:30 p.m. — Kansas House, District 10: Erica Anderson, Republican; John Wilson, Democrat.
