Fallen Kansas soldier to be honored this week

June 4, 2012

— A soldier from Overland Park will be honored before his funeral on Wednesday.

Twenty-three-year-old Pfc. Cale Miller died May 24 when he was trapped inside a vehicle when it was hit by a roadside bomb.

Miller's body is scheduled to arrive Monday morning at the Olathe airport. City officials have encouraged residents to line the street along the route of the processional for Miller. He was a 2007 Olathe Northwest graduate. He attended Kansas University and Baker University.

His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday. Gov. Sam Brownback has ordered that flags across Kansas fly at half-staff on that day.

Miller deployed with the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

Debbie and family,

When you are grieving and your heart is aching with pain, you can look up into the night stars, and think of them as porch lights, welcoming your loved one home.

May God bring you comfort as you face the difficult days ahead.

"If you can't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them."
