— The first family of Kansas closed out 2011 with a happy celebration.

Gov. Sam Brownback escorted his daughter Abby Christine Brownback down the aisle of a Topeka church Saturday afternoon for her wedding to Eric Teetsel.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the private ceremony took place at the First Presbyterian Church, where the governor and his wife, Mary, were married 29 years ago.

Abby Brownback is an education reporter for The Gazette, a weekly newspaper in Maryland’s Prince George’s County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kansas State University and a master’s in public affairs reporting from the University of Maryland.

Phelps is a Democrat! Come on people, get your facts straight.

Well, I hope she has a happy, long lasting marriage. =)

I know the Brownbacks, great people, politics scare me, but quality, quality people.

Adult children of politicians become fair game in the political arena when they stump for their parent. Minor children of politicians and adult children who do not rally the voters for their parent should be left in peace.
I've never heard of this young lady, though I admit I haven't paid much attention to the governor's family. Giving her the benefit, I'll make no mention of Rev. Phelps or any other political, social, economic issue and just wish her and family well on the joyous day of her wedding. Mazel Tov.

Interesting time of year for a wedding. I rather like the idea. Seems like a nice way to head into the new year. I wish the couple nothing but a lifetime of happiness.

Tzeitel - the eldest daughter in Fiddler on the Roof, in which marriage plays a big role.

the uncivil left at it again: gramma; mike; observar; and gandalf.

sad.

I agree with Bea, great time for a wedding.

God bless them. with his job at AEI, and her education/experience, there's a power couple up and coming. good for them.

Gandalf - It's one thing to be partisan in the political arena. But now you're just being mean.
Think about what you said. Reflect. If you're a person worthy of listening to, you'll admit you made a mistake with that comment and apologize. If you don't admit your mistake, we'll all know we're dealing with a person with a dark heart, someone not worthy of be listened to.
Here's to hope.

jayhawkinsf 2 years, 11 months ago

Sure I do. It was mean then and your comments are mean now. Mean and evil.
From now on, forever and ever, every time you call someone evil, you can see that reflection in your mirror.
It's one thing to make an unfortunate remark. It's quite another to be given the opportunity to reflect and then hold to a mean and evil statement. How sad for you.

But you weren't treated as such, were you. You claim that other children of politicians were treated as badly. It's their cheek that was struck, not yours. It's they who have the right to give as they were given. They didn't. They wouldn't. They know it's wrong. They know better than you or I will ever know. Perhaps you should learn from their example. I do agree with your statement that you are no better than "them". That's clear as can be.

Incivility deserves no respect, be it from the left or right.

It would be helpful if you put those comments in context. Other than the "Missouri" comment, each comment was made in response to another's inflammatory comment, or in the case of Brownback, was made about a public figure. Context is everything, Gandalf. Look at the context of your comment. On her wedding day, you suggested the bride was so ugly, she should cover her face. And why do you make that comment? Because she is the daughter of someone you don't like. That's the context. It was mean just for the sake of being mean. And rather than back off your meanness, you've tried repeatedly to defend it. You can go on defending your statement, or you can try. But it is what it is, sheer meanness. I can only hope that no one would say such a thing to your daughter on her wedding day.

I wonder how daddy felt about her marrying outside the Faith. or has he unconverted?

No mention of the reception being held at the governors mansion. How much tax payer money funded the extra officers for security? There was at least two highway patrol cars at the driveway entrance. Congratulations to the happy couple, as long as Sam paid for all the extras on his own dime.

beatrice 2 years, 11 months ago

Seriously people? Dumping on the daughter of a politician -- that is just wrong. Stop it.

I think Obama's kids are darling.

But on a larger note, why is this wedding news? Never heard of her. Apparently, she has tried to stay out of the public eye. I can't stand Brownback, but his daughter didn't have any choice in choosing her parents. i agree. The folks dumping on her are just plain wrong. Let her enjoy her life. Now, her father. He's fair game.

deec 2 years, 11 months ago

I don't see that anyone is dumping o her personally, unlike the comments made about the children of Carter, Clinton, Obama and Bush II.

jayhawkinsf 2 years, 11 months ago

Look above to Gandalf's remark about if she looks like her father, she should wear a burka. Does that qualify as dumping?

deec 2 years, 11 months ago

Not especially, compared to the hateful things that were said about Carter's, and Clinton's kids, unless you happen to think sammy is ugly. It seems like a political comment since there is much in common between sammy's views and the extremists of Islam. Extremists of both cults have more similarities than differences.

jayhawkinsf 2 years, 11 months ago

"Not especially" Is that like being a little pregnant?

Linda Endicott 2 years, 11 months ago

I don't like Brownback...and didn't vote for him...but making nasty comments about this girl is wrong...shame on those of you who have...

I heard on TV that her parents were married in the same church...kind of romantic, isn't it?

bearded_gnome 2 years, 11 months ago

I think that is very cool crazyks.

Well, I hope it works out well for the couple. I also hope that IF her new husband should turn out to be a spouse abuser, that her dad won't mandate she stay married, since he wants that for the rest of us.
