A Tonganoxie Middle School student is in fair condition at an area hospital after being hit by a vehicle after school on Thursday.
Tonganoxie police Chief Jeff Brandau said Allyson Sparks, a TMS fifth-grader, was struck by a 2008 Saturn sport-utility vehicle driven by Lisa Marie Miller, 35, Tonganoxie, about 3:15 p.m. Witnesses said the girl was running across Washington Street and headed north on East Street, Brandau said. There is not a crosswalk at the intersection.
She was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., by Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Services, Brandau said. The 10-year-old suffered a broken femur in the accident, Brandau said. A hospital official at Children's Mercy said late Friday afternoon that the girl was in fair condition.
The accident is still under investigation, but no citations currently are planned to be issued, Brandau said.

The elementary school is overcrowded at the moment so as of now 5th grade, in Tongie, is attending the middle school.
Once the new elementary school gets built, 5th grade will move back to the elementary school.
